RP SEG won 7 trophies in Singapore Robotic Games 2012

Republic Polytechnic SEG won 7 trophies in Singapore Robotic Games 2012, including 5 out of 6 trophies in Underwater Robotic category!!!

Good news! We have done it again at Singapore Robotic Games (SRG) 2012.
The Singapore Robotic Games (SRG) 2012 were held from 31 January – 2 February at ITE College East, Simei.  The main objectives of the Singapore Robotic Games are:
  • to inculcate in the general public an understanding and appreciation of robotics and automation;
  • to educate the general public on the things robots can do that are quite apart from industrial tasks;
  • to help in the technology development by providing benchmarks for practical robotics research and development; and
  • to encourage innovation in design among young engineers and provide them with a forum to display their works
This year 2012, RP had participated in the following 4 categories:

1)  Remote Controlled Underwater Robot category
2)  Autonomous Underwater Robot category
3)  Remote controlled Robot Sumo category
4)  Intelligent Robot category (autonomous)

Day 1 (31 January, 2012) – RC & Autonomous Underwater robot category:

In autonomous underwater robotic category, there were 11 teams registered - 6 from RP, 2 from ITE college west, 2 from NYP, 1 from Bangalore Robotics, India.  However, all the competitors withdrawn their robots from the competition at the last minute due to some technical problems.  As a defending champion of this event, our robots performed exceedingly well and were able to complete the tasks to win all the top three awards (Champion, 1st Runner-up and 2nd Runner-Up).  With this, we are maintaining our unbeatable record in autonomous underwater robot category!

In Remote Controlled (RC) underwater robotic category, there were 18 teams from all the tertiary institutes, ITE.  Despite the fierce competition from NYP, our robots clinched the Champion, and 2nd Runner –UP.  To add on, good thing is we have won back our lost champion trophy  from NYE this year. We lost second position to NYP with a mere time difference of 2 seconds.  This shows how intense was the competition.  Thanks to the controller Mr. Soh Lin Heng and Ezekial (DAA student).

 RC UWR :  Champion, and 2nd Runner Up

Day 3 (2 February, 2012) – Intelligent Robot Category:

In Intelligent robot category, there were 18 teams from all the tertiary institutes and ITE.  We sent 5 robots in this category out of which 2 of them clinched 2nd and 3rd positions.  We had won 1st Runner Up and 2nd Runner up.  Our 1st Runner up robot scored a perfect 76 but took extra time as compared with the champion robot, the robot prepared by Seng Meng Tet and Chan Kah Whye had won the 2nd Runner up.
